Detected candidates

Every change this record’s detection has flagged, what was decided about it, and the rule that decided.

A candidate is a pair of digests that differ. That is all it is: it is not a revision until something establishes that the bytes are a revision of the document this row names, and a wrong referent produces the same difference. How this record decides.

State

  • 55 — declined by analysis
  • 14 — pending human review

Analysis and a person are separate states and are never added together. Confirmed by a person: 0. Confirmed by analysis: 0. Declined by a person: 0. Declined by analysis: 55. No decision on the record: 14. Of 69 staged.

“Pending human review” names the absence of a receipt and nothing else. It does not say that a person’s reading is what the candidate is short of: where the confirm gate ran and could not confirm, what is short is evidence, and the gate names it.

Verdict, by rule

Mechanical change class

  • 0 — administrative
  • 1 — editorial
  • 22 — lifecycle
  • 26 — content
  • 21 — no class could be derived

Of 69 candidates, and not a partition: 1 holds more than one class, so the five figures do not sum to 69. Listed in the order the four classes were filed in, which is neither a sort nor a rank.

The confirm gate

Ruled on 12 September 2026: where the evidence is complete and independently witnessed, analysis reaches the verdict and it is recorded as confirmed by analysis. A person’s press upgrades that reading to a person’s confirmation; it does not stand in front of it. A machine verdict is never shown or counted as a person’s. Everything else stays undetermined, with the evidence that is missing named on the candidate’s own page.

every element passes, or the candidate is not confirmable. There is no score, no threshold and no majority. the referent element is computed first and alone: where it does not pass, no other element is computed and none is reported, because a delta whose two sides may be two different documents supports no reasoning at all.

referent
both hashes answered at the same address, and it is the address the row publishes for this document
identity
the retained text carries the marker the document uses for itself
class
both observations are classed as observations of the document
transport
both observations answered 200, with no error, by the same fetch method
window
the pair is a comparison against a recorded prior observation
delta
the difference survives the published page-furniture exclusions
witness
the publisher's own dateline moved inside the observed window and is still stated

Each element reads one of three ways. pass: measured, and it holds. fail: measured, and it does not hold. unmeasured: not measured — evidence this record does not hold, which is not the same fact as evidence measured and found against.

What makes the witness independent: the publisher's own dateline, retained and citable. This record's own summary and account are the reported class by definition and are never evidence for a verdict about the record itself.

What the confirm gate does not reach

Printed by the gate on every run and carried here with its verdicts, rather than discovered by the first candidate that wears one of these shapes. A gate written to the contours of the case in front of it fits the class badly ever after, so the shapes it does not cover are stated where its readings are.

The gate read 7 of 69 staged candidates. It did not run on the other 62, which a rule had already resolved — a confirm and a decline are contradictory verdicts about one candidate, so the gate is not run where a rule has answered.

Of those 7, and the three are a partition of them:

None of the 7 eligible candidates is confirmable. That is a reading reached on all 7, not an absence of looking, and it is not a denial that any of them is a revision: an element this record could not measure and an element it measured and found against are opposite facts, and both hold a confirmation back.

What would settle each candidate the gate did not confirm

One line per element the gate did not pass. An undetermined item that does not say what would settle it is a shrug, so the evidence that is missing is named beside the candidate it is missing from. Where a candidate was eliminated on the referent, no other element was computed and none is listed: a difference whose two sides may be two different documents supports no reasoning at all.

The rule that assigns a class

Mechanical, and reproducible from the two retained texts alone. Both texts are read as this record hashed them: markup tags removed, entities resolved, whitespace runs collapsed to one space. Each is split on spaces into tokens. The common leading and trailing tokens are trimmed, the longest common subsequence of what is left is taken — walking from the front, advancing the earlier side when the two continuations are the same length — and each maximal run of unaligned tokens is one span.

Each span is then tested against the four rules independently. A span may satisfy several and may satisfy none; a candidate’s classes are the union over its spans. There is no precedence between the four, and no class outranks another.

ADMINISTRATIVE
every token that differs is a web address, or one side is a phrase of two or more words taken contiguously from the title this record holds for the row.
EDITORIAL
the two sides become identical once typographic variants are folded to their plain forms — curly quotes, dashes, ellipses, non-breaking spaces — and punctuation is removed.
LIFECYCLE
every token that differs is a date, a version designation or a status word, and at least one of them is a date, a version designation or a status word rather than a bare numeral.
CONTENT
after that same fold, at least one word of two or more letters is present on one side and not on the other, and it is not a web address, a month name, a version keyword or a status word.

A span whose text, extended eighty characters either way in the retained text, contains an attribute opener is markup residue — text a tag matcher this record has since corrected let through — and is removed from the population before any class is derived. Over these 69 candidates there are 313 differing spans: 47 excluded as markup residue, 266 eligible, of which 5 matched none of the four rules. 0 differing regions were too large to decompose into spans.

Where no class could be derived

These are separate facts and are counted separately. A candidate this record could not read and a candidate it read and found nothing in are opposite states, and neither is a fifth class.

What the rule does not reach

ADMINISTRATIVE matched none of the 69 candidates staged. That is an unexercised rule rather than an absent one: no candidate this record holds has taken the shape it tests for.
